ISLAMABAD: In a major step towards modernising immigration procedures and combating human smuggling, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has developed an AI-powered application, with a pilot launch set for Islamabad International Airport.

Senior FIA officials briefed Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi during a meeting at FIA headquarters on the new initiative, which is aimed at streamlining immigration processes and eliminating human trafficking, a senior official said.

“The use of artificial intelligence is the need of the hour,” said Interior Minister Naqvi, praising the initiative. He noted that the system will not only strengthen anti-trafficking efforts but also significantly reduce wait times for passengers at immigration counters.

The minister directed the immediate release of funds to upgrade FIA’s IT infrastructure and ordered the urgent renovation of the FIA headquarters.

He also instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to hand over newly allocated land for the FIA Academy without further delay.

Addressing the issue of manpower shortages, Minister Naqvi called for expedited recruitment against all approved vacant positions. He assured full government support in providing resources, but emphasised that improved performance must accompany increased investment.

FIA Director General Raja Riffat Mukhtar informed the minister that necessary amendments to the FIA Act have been finalised.
