India government approves $4.8 billion to subsidise cooking gas

MUMBAI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet approved spending 300 billion rupees ($3.42 billion) to provide affordable cooking gas or liquefied petroleum gas for households, Information Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday.

The government also allocated 120.6 billion rupees ($1.38 billion) towards a scheme to provide subsidised cooking gas connections to women from nearly 100 million poor households.
