Executive Director of SCF Javed Hussain talked to the workshop participants at the certification ceremony that women cotton workers are badly impacted by the recent flood crisis and also have poor working conditions and almost zero occupational health and safety measures while they pick cotton in the fields.

He further emphasized that this is the responsibility of the government and labor department to ensure decent working conditions and strict implementation of the Sindh Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2017 & The Rules 2019 at the local level in the agriculture sector.

He said that more interventions are required to protect the labor rights of agriculture workers by addressing the climate change impacts.

Women suffer from the worst rising temperature and its impacts so there is a need to plant more trees as well as eco-friendly shades and climate safety kits for women cotton workers who are the major contributors to the growth of the textile industry in the country and globally.
