Lesco recovers over Rs48m from 2,000 ‘dead’ defaulters

LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) recovered over Rs 48 million from over 2,000 dead defaulters in various circles of operation during the first two days of its recovery campaign in collaboration with Tehsildars Recovery.

According to Lesco spokesman, the company’s Chief Engineer O&M (T&G) Zafar Iqbal with the support of Tehsildar City Mujahid Zia and Tehsildar Shalimar Noreez Humayun recovered outstanding dues of Rs 4.31 million from 145 defaulters in Northern Circle and Rs 3.51 million from 249 defaulters in Eastern Circle, respectively.

Similarly, Lesco Manager (Material Disposal) Engineer Anwar Watto along with Tehsildar Model Town Rana Arsal and Tehsildar Cantt Sajjad Qureshi recovered Rs 840,000 from 106 defaulters in Central Circle and Rs 2.72 million from 65 defaulters in South Circle, while Manager (Technical) Engineer Muhammad Farooq with the assistance of Tehsildar Nankana Muhammad Iqbal Rasheed and Tehsildar Sheikhupura Muhammad Aslam Gujjar recovered Rs 1.56 million from 31 defaulters in Nankana Circle and Rs 5.12 million from 186 defaulters in Sheikhupura Circle. He added that Lesco Manager E&S (PMU) Engineer Abbas Ali in collaboration with Naib Tehsildar Kasur and Okara Mirza Zahid Baig recovered outstanding dues of Rs 2.16 million from 165 defaulters in Okara Circle and Rs 6.59 million from 329 defaulters in Kasur Circle.

Another Rs 21.26 million was recovered on Thursday as well with the help of district revenue department, added the spokesman.

Lesco Chief Executive Officer Engineer Shahid Haider said that the company is facing loss due to dead defaulters, and vowed to continue action against them.

It is to mention that Lahore Division’s Commissioner has assigned additional charge of Tehsildar Recovery (from Lesco defaulters) to relevant Tehsidars, while Lesco Chief Executive Officer Engineer Shahid Haidar has also designated four senior officers to assist them in the dues recovery from defaulters. Top 100 defaulters in each circle owed total outstanding dues of Rs 4.545 billion to the Lesco, he added.
