Road & transport sector: NCC-FFP for prompt implementation of 12 projects worth $5.6bn

ISLAMABAD: The National Coordination Committee on Foreign-Funded Projects (NCC-FFP) on Wednesday reviewed 12 ongoing projects of road and transport sector amounting to $5.6 billion and directed the line departments to strictly follow the timelines for expeditious implementation of the foreign-funded projects.

Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq chaired the meeting of the NCC-FFP at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, here on Wednesday.

The meeting was attended by the Minister Planning Commission of Pakistan, the State Minister for Finance, the Secretary Economic Affairs Division, and the additional chief secretaries of provincial governments. The representative of the Prime Minister’s Office, Finance Division and Provincial P&D and line Departments and Boards of Revenues were also present at the session.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Communications, National Highways Authority (NHA), and the Finance Division were also present at the NCC-FFP session. In this follow-up meeting, the NCC-FFP reviewed the compliance status of Forum’s decisions made in light of previous meetings held on transport and communication sector.

The committee discussed 12 ongoing projects of road and transport sector amounting to $5.6 billion funded by Asian Development Bank, World Bank, China, Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), Japan, and South Korea.

The minister lauded the efforts of line ministries and departments for the smooth implementation of foreign-funded projects in this sector. These projects have significant for improving regional connectivity and facilitating trade with Afghanistan and Central Asia.

The minister directed the line departments to strictly follow the timelines for expeditious implementation of the projects. He emphasized that development projects must be executed in a timely and efficient manner so that people can benefit from these projects without any delay.
