WASA running Rs35.37m deficit

A subsidiary of Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA), the WASA said it was issuing the profit and loss details to dispel perception of financial mismanagement.

Presiding over a meeting at WASA office the HDA's Director General Ghulam Muhammad Qaimkhani said in order to address the allegations levelled by media, civil society and some trade unions the WASA would make public such a report every month.

According to the details of the deficit made available, WASA suffered a loss of Rs35.5 million in July, Rs34.1 million in August, Rs35.7 million in September, Rs34.1 in October and Rs3.05 million in November this year. On the expenditure side, the WASA spent Rs25.77 million on salaries, operation, maintenance, chlorination and POL charges till August 15, 2011.

Rs19.2 million in July 2011, Rs12.73 million in August 2011, Rs16 million in September 2011, Rs18.99 million in October 2011, Rs24.6 million in November 2011 and Rs17 million till December 24, 2011, have been spent under the same head. The DG of HDA maintained that the deficit was the cause of delay in the payment of the employees salaries.
