ISLAMABAD: The federal government employees, under the banner of All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA), on Thursday held a sit-in and demanded an increase in their wages.

A number of government employees marched from the Secretariat and staged a sit-in outside the Parliament House. The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands.

The protesters demanded of the government to increase salaries of the employees on the basis of Pay and Pension Commission’s recommendations and 150 percent executive allowance. They also called for a 100 percent increase in house rent, and medical and conveyance allowances.

The demands also include the upgradation of federal government employees on the pattern of provincial government employees as per the February 10, 2021 government agreement and recommendations of the Establishment Division. All daily wages, contracts and adhoc employees should be made permanent. The pension of all pensioners’ houses should be increased by 150 percent as per inflation, they further demanded.

AGEGA Chairman Rahman Bajwa, speaking on the occasion, said they would continue their protest till the fulfilment of their demands. “We are non-political and will remain non-political,” he said.

Till the filling of this report, protesters continued their sit-in.

A heavy contingent of police personnel was deployed on the occasion in order to avert any incident.
