Fatima Fertilizer uses innovation to highlight climate change issue

KARACHI: Fatima Fertilizer has introduced an innovative way of raising awareness about climate change by using technological tools at Pakistan Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The use of technology has been effective not only for raising awareness on climate change but tackling issues of environments on a sustainable basis. Environmentalists expressed their hope that the out-of-box approach is needed to address the issues related to climate change and improvement in the environment's ecosystem in the country.

One of the leading local companies, Fatima Fertilizer recently introduced an innovative way of raising awareness about climate change by using technological tools at Pakistan Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

In this regard, a unique QR code out of wood and grass placed at the entrance of Pakistan Pavilion. The creative code allowed the visitors to post their pledges in support of protecting the environment on their social media accounts. The activity received excellent response and hundreds of visitors participated to register their pledge on protecting the environment.

The pledge activity also included an opportunity for the participants to have a tree planted under their name at any one of Fatima Fertilizer's production sites in Pakistan.

Moreover, Using VR technology FFCL showcased its innovative investment initiatives aimed at tackling climate change and de-carbonization at the Pakistan Pavilion of Expo 2020 Dubai.

The company also apprised the audience about its modern farming practices, such as precision agriculture, to save water used for irrigation purposes and enable efficient use of agriculture inputs.

According to an official, Fatima Group is aiming to shift its fertilizer manufacturing operations from fossil fuel to green hydrogen and ammonia production.

A shift from fossil fuel to green energy is critical for the fertilizer industry to produce Ammonia without CO2 emissions to the environment, said Rabel Sadozai, an official at Fatima Group.

Pakistan is a potential land to harness the benefits of green energy with 14 geothermal sites and 10 wind corridors to produce renewable hydrogen to produce Ammonia. Investment in renewable hydrogen production technologies will provide a breakthrough in manufacturing the fertilizers essential to meet the food security needs for the growing population, she further added.
