LCCI, IPO ink MoU to create awareness on IPR

LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) on Monday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation for the cause of trade and industry and to create awareness about Intellectual Property Rights.

LCCI President Mian Tariq Misbah and Director General IPO Shazia Adnan signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. LCCI Vice President Tahir Manzoor Chaudhry, EC Members Haris Atiq and Mardan Ali Zaidi were also present on the occasion. It has been agreed between the two organizations that Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) will be established at the LCCI. The Center will provide basic level services and additional services according to the need of LCCI members.

LCCI will provide the requisite administrative and Human Resource support to operationalize the Technology and Innovation Support Center and will also nominate a focal person for TISC.

LCCI President Mian Taiq Misbah in his address said that IPO-Pakistan holds a key position as Intellectual Property and Trademarks are important for a competitive economy in the scenario of ongoing globalization.

He said that LCCI has established various help desks in Lahore Chamber under the banner of "One Window Smart Services" that provide many services and essential information to LCCI members. The members can just come to Lahore Chamber and avail the services of NADRA, Passport, FBR, PRA, WeBOC, SMEDA, Excise, PESSI, Police Services and many more.

Mian Tariq Misbah said that the addition of "Technology and Innovation Support Centre" will add immense value to the diverse range of services provided by LCCI. It will greatly facilitate the LCCI members by providing advice on Intellectual Property Rights, drafting and filing patent applications, besides a wide range of other services. This will certainly encourage innovation in our industrial sector which is need of the hour.

Director General IPO Shazia Adnan said that the Memorandum of Understanding between LCCI and IPO will go a long way and will facilitate the business community.

She said that IPO will extend will enhance cooperation with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry to facilitate its members and to create awareness about the Intellectual Property Rights.
