Punjab reports 1,798 new cases of Covid-19

LAHORE: Despite focus on vaccination drive and implementation on Corona SOPs, Punjab has reported 1,798 fresh virus cases and 17 fatalities over the last 24 hours taking the provincial tally of coronavirus cases to 408758 and death toll to 12135.

Out of 22902 tests conducted across the province in the last 24 hours; 731 fresh infections were reported in Lahore, 249 in Rawalpindi, 107 in Faisalabad, 30 in Sheikhupura, 31 in Bahawalpur, 44 in Muzaffargarh, 43 in Sahiwal, 27 in Gujranwala, 37 in Rahim Yar Khan, 28 in Layyah and 14 in Bhakkar.

Out of 17 deaths reported across Punjab, 07 were reported in Rawalpindi, four in Gujranawala, two in DG Khan and one each in Faisalabad, Sargodha and Sheikhupura taking the death toll in these districts to 1919, 539, 171, 1217, 310 and 143, respectively.

With the recovery of 1699 more virus patients, the number of recovered patients in the province reached to 369,388. On the other hand, as many as 4,136 coronavirus recoveries were reported across the country taking the tally of recoveries to 1076112 showing the recovery rate of 90.1 percent.

As per break-up of coronavirus cases and deaths in major cities of the province, Lahore has so far reported 206376 cases and 4797 deaths, Rawalpindi 36068 cases and 1919 deaths, Faisalabad 24532 cases and 1217 deaths, Multan 20736 cases and 893 deaths, Bahawalpur 9520 cases and 262 deaths, Gujranwala 9728 cases and 539 deaths, Muzaffargarh 2841 cases and 348 deaths, Rahim Yar Khan 7510 cases and 290 deaths, Sargodha 9991 cases and 310 deaths, Sheikhupura 4525 cases and 143 deaths and Sialkot reported 8359 cases and 244 deaths.

A spokesman of Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department said that vaccination is the only and effective treatment against coronavirus. There is no shortage of vaccine, as ample stock of vaccine is available at all the vaccination centers, he added.

On the other hand, the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) responded to 866 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in all 37 districts of Punjab over the last 24 hours. In these RTCs, 08 people died, whereas 926 were injured. Out of this, 535 people were seriously injured who were shifted to different hospitals.
