THE RUPEE: Overall losses

KARACHI: PKR ended the first day of the week in a loss against USD in both interbank and open markets with losses in open market relatively higher than interbank one. It also recorded loss of higher than one rupee against Euro in open market. The global currency markets saw fall in USD against other major currencies where it went down to one week low after a study showed US consumer confidence to be sliding thus hurting expectations of earlier monetary policy tightening by Federal Reserve.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: In the interbank market, Pakistan Rupee lost 5 paisas for both buying and selling against USD over last week’s rates closing at 164.05 and 164.15 respectively.

OPEN MARKET RATES: In the open market, PKR lost 40 paisas for buying and 20 paisas for selling over last week’s rates closing at 164.20 and 164.50 respectively.

Against Euro, PKR lost 1.50 rupees for both buying and selling closing at 192.50 and 194 respectively.

Against UAE Dirham, PKR lost 20 paisas for both buying and selling closing at 44.60 and 44.80 respectively.

Against Saudi Riyal, PKR lost 20 paisas for both buying and selling as well closing at 43.60 and 43.80 respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee witnessed volatile trend in the process of trading against the greenback in the local currency market on Monday.

Following fluctuating demand and supply situation in the market, the greenback kept on moving on moving both ways throughout the trading session and closed for buying and selling at Rs 164.00 and Rs 165.50 against the previous closing rates of Rs164.10 and Rs165.20, respectively, local currency dealers said.

On the other hand, the rupee remained under selling pressure and depreciated its worth versus the pound sterling. At the close, the pound’s buying and selling rates improved from Friday’s closing of Rs225.00 and Rs227.00 to Rs 225.80 and Rs 227.50, respectively, they added.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar gained five pasias against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday.

The dollar opened at Rs164.85(buying) and Rs 164.95(selling) against last rate of Rs 164.80(buying) and Rs 164.90(selling).

It closed at Rs164.85(buying) and Rs 164.95(selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold traded at Rs. 110,400 (selling) and Rs110,000 (selling).
