Agriculture under the govt spotlight — II

The unfortunate “inaction” from Islamabad resulted in this learning opportunity being lost which would have prepared us for managing our water resources at the most optimum level. In the hostile climate change in this part of the world, water usage must be “forced” to be efficient and the starting point has to be reduction in flood irrigation schemes.

To complete the learning experience, we had also included spray irrigation opportunity in the vast palace facilities to really understand water conservation and proper distribution of fertilizer doses. The result, as noted in the operating three to four years, was enormously beneficial, with all kinnow trees under controlled drip-irrigation producing better quality fruit and in much higher quantity as compared to the conventional flood irrigation inefficient option.

When are we going to realize that we simply cannot afford water wastage and that there is simply no way we can continue with our wasteful ways!
