ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly was echoed on Monday with a demand by opposition parties to hold a probe into an alleged ‘romantic call’ between the chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and a woman.

Referring to a previous video clip circulated on social media in which chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) former Justice Javed Iqbal is purportedly on a “sexually charged” phone call, Qadir Patel of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) questioned: “Why Pakistan Citizen Portal is reluctant to take action against chairman NAB despite complaint by the woman?”

In a written to his question, minister in-charge of Prime Minister’s Office, said the ‘complaint was examined and found unfit for further processing in light of user’s guideline manual for complaints and suggestions handling hence it was dropped from the system being beyond jurisdiction of the portal”.

“The complainant was informed through the system as the instant complaint does not qualify to be processed through Pakistan Citizen Portal (PCP),” it added.

However, the opposition members especially women kept asking the chair to either order a probe into the leaked video, or constitute a committee in order to give ‘justice to the woman’.

But the chair insisted that a proper forum for resolution of such a complaint is not the Pakistan Citizen Portal as there are courts where that woman can lodge her complaint.

According to the written reply submitted to the House, the woman alleged: “The chairman NAB is harassing me and my family he is making fake cases against me and my husband just because I didn’t make any relation with him. NAB is threatening me. I am a law student. How he disrespects a woman like this. He is a morally ill person. I have all video and audio recordings against him I am attaching some screenshots of videos [sic]”.
