Foreign Minister Qureshi discusses Islamophobia, IOJ&K dispute with OIC Secretary General

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a telephonic conversation earlier today with Gen. Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, Secretary General of the OIC.

The two sides discussed a broad range of issues pertaining to the Muslim world, including the rise in Islamophobia and hate speech, to the situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The Foreign Minister noted that there has been a steady increase in incidents of Islamophobia and hate speech against Muslims, including the desecration of the Holy Qur'an and the printing of caricatures of the Holy Prophet; which "seriously hurt the sentiments of Muslims around the world".

Furthermore, the Foreign Minister apprised the Secretary General of the worsening humanitarian situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, adding that India's abrogation of the constitutional rights of Kashmiris is "a clear violation of the relevant UN and OIC resolutions and international law".

The Foreign Minister appreciated the OIC’s consistent support on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and agreed to collaborate on matters pertaining to the wider Muslim community.
