THE RUPEE: Strength vs USD on rise

KARACHI: On Friday, on market close, PKR displayed a behaviour similar to that on Thursday. It went up against USD in both interbank and open markets and fell against Euro in open market.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: In the interbank market, Pakistan Rupee gained 35 paisas for both buying and selling against USD over yesterday's rates closing at 159.05 and 159.15 respectively.

OPEN MARKET RATES: In the open market, PKR gained 30 paisas for buying and 40 paisas for selling over yesterday's rates closing at 159.10 and 159.30 respectively.

Against Euro, PKR went down by one rupee for buying and selling closing at 187 and 188.50 respectively.

Against UAE Dirham, PKR went up by 10 paisas for buying and selling closing at 43.15 and 43.40 respectively.

Against Saudi Riyal, PKR gained 5 paisas for buying while remaining unchanged for selling closing at 42.10 and 42.30 respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee witnesses divergent trend in the process of trading against the greenback in the local currency market on Friday.

Following fluctuating demand and supply situation in the market, the greenback observed volatile trend and closed for buying and selling at Rs 159.00 and Rs 160.40 against the overnight closing rate of Rs 159.20 and Rs 159.60 respectively, local currency dealers said.

Moreover, the rupee maintained downward slide for the second consecutive day against the pound sterling. Consequently, the pound's buying and selling rates further rose from Thursday's closing of Rs 206.25 and Rs 207.90 to Rs 207.00 and Rs 208.70 respectively, they added.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee gained Rs 1 against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Friday.

The dollar opened at Rs159(buying) and Rs159.10(selling) against last rate of Rs160(buying) and Rs160.10(selling).

It closed atRs159(buying) and Rs159.10(selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold was Rs. 113,700(selling) and Rs113,500(buying) at the local Sarafa (gold) markets of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
