While admitting that captain (retd) Safdar's behavior was inappropriate, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders Saeed Ghani and Sharmila Faruqi both have condemned the way his arrest was carried out.

Following the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) arrest on Monday morning, in separate tweets, both leaders said that the arrest was not carried out on the instructions of the Sindh government. They alleged that this was being done to 'create a rift among Pakistan Democratic Movement'.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah too has dismissed news of the arrest being made on the provincial government's orders.

Meanwhile, PML-N's Mohammad Zobair has said the Sindh government informed him that Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar was kidnapped by rangers at four in the morning. He continued that he was brought into the sector commander’s office where additional IG was already present and was forced to issue the orders for the arrest of Safdar.
