KAMPALA: The Ugandan shilling weakened on Friday amid a surge in demand for hard currency from commercial banks looking to beef up their positions, traders said.

At 0936 GMT commercial banks quoted the shilling at 3,725/3,735 compared to Thursday's close of 3,700/3,710.
