(Karachi) Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that United Nation Security Council (UNSC) meeting discussed Kashmir issue which is a diplomatic success for Pakistan.

In a statement on Thursday, he said the issue was debated on August 5 when India had taken unilateral illegal steps about the status of Jammu and Kashmir last year.

He added, "It has never happened before that the Kashmir issue is debated at the UN Security Council for third time in a year."

Qureshi maintained he had written a letter to the UN Security Council President informing him that the human rights situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir is deteriorating and the issue needs to be debated by the Council.

He said the Kashmir issue was debated at length while 14 out of 15 members of the Council took part in it.

He mentioned that India tried its best to prevent the discussion, but it failed in its nefarious designs. He said Indian attempts to build an impression that Kashmir is its internal matter or bilateral issue have also failed.

This is the third meeting of the UNSC in which Kashmir issue was discussed. India continue to commit human rights violations and torturing people in Kashmir, besides extra-judicial killings. Pakistan raised the matter on international platform and apprised the world about the Indian government's evil plans.

There has been complete lockdown in Jammu Kashmir by India and despite repeated calls to ease restrictions, Modi-led BJP government seems reluctant to initiate the move.
