THE RUPEE: Rupee recovers

KARACHI: On Thursday, Pakistan Rupee gained value against USD in both interbank and open markets. However, it lost value against Euro in open market while remaining unchanged against UAE Dirham and gaining value against Saudi Riyal.

INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: RATES: In the interbank market, Pakistan Rupee gained 15 paisas for buying and 30 paisas for selling against USD over yesterday's rates closing at 166.55 and 166.70 respectively.

OPEN MARKET RATES: In the open market, PKR gained 60 paisas for both buying and selling against USD over yesterday's rates closing at 166.80 and 167.10 respectively.

Against Euro, PKR remained unchanged for buying while losing 50 paisas for selling over yesterday's rates closing at 186 and 188 respectively.

Against UAE Dirham, PKR remained unchanged for both buying and selling closing at 45 and 45.15 respectively.

Against Saudi Riyal, PKR gained 10 paisas for buying and 5 paisas for selling closing at 43.90 and 44.10 respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee showed strength as it recovered its day earlier losses versus the American dollar in the local currency market on Thursday.

Following lack of buyers' interest in the market, the dollar remained under selling pressure throughout the trading session and ended lower for buying and selling at Rs 166.60 and Rs 168.00 against the Wednesday's closing trend of Rs 167.00 and Rs 168.20 respectively, local currency dealers said.

On the other hand, the rupee continued downward trend for the fourth consecutive day against the pound sterling. Consequently, the pound's buying and selling rates further improved from the overnight closing of Rs 207.50 and Rs 209.20 to Rs 208.50 and Rs 210.08 respectively, they added.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee gained 20 paisas against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Thursday.

The dollar opened at Rs 167.50(buying) and Rs 167.60(selling) against last rate of Rs 167.70(buying) and Rs 167.80(selling).

It closed at Rs 167.50(buying) and Rs 167.60(selling).

The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold were Rs. 111,300(selling) and Rs 110,100(selling) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
