After Sonu Nigam, Javed Akhtar faces backlash for his ‘anti- azaan’ tweet

Recently, Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar took social media to support singer, Sonu Nigam’s last year’s controversial tweet about loudspeakers in mosques that sparkled quite a bit of havoc in Muslim community.

Last year, Sonu shared his opinions on loudspeakers being used in the mosques for the call of prayer on the mini blogging app, twitter. This tweet got the singer/musician in a lot of trouble and even caused him his hair and his official twitter account.

Recently, Sonu was granted heavy police security followed by some death threats citing that the matter hasn’t yet settled down. Amidst all this, Akhtar raised his voice on the same matter in support of the singer. However, the writer received some major backlash on the same issue.

While talking to Times Now, the ‘Bijuria’ singer said, “Taking a stand with me at this point is perhaps the best time, since I have some issues with my security. Most didn’t take stand for me for their own reasons.”

“They can take a stand for ‘Padmaavat’, but they couldn’t take a stand for me when I was facing death threats,” added Nigam, probably hinting at his Bollywood film fraternity.
