Privilege motion: Lawmaker accuses MLC official of misbehaviour
The like-minded faction of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) has moved a privilege motion in the National Assembly against Director, Military Land and Cantonment (MLC), Lahore, Hamid Haroon, accusing him of misbehaviour.
The motion, submitted by MNA Kashmala Tariq, said that on Thursday, the mover had visited the director-general along with the Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister in his Rawalpindi office to discuss the inauguration and terms of references (TORs) of two of her projects. She said that the projects, Cantonment Board Hospital and the Community Center in Lahore Cant, had been pending for the past five years.
Kashmala Tariq, who is also the party's secretary information, said that the Speaker of the National Assembly had admitted her privilege motion against the Lahore-based official. She said that her motion had been referred to the House Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges for investigation, examination and report under Rule 101 of the Rules of Procedure and notices had also been issued to all concerned.
In her motion, Kashmala cited a prime minister's ruling that the MNA who provided funds for any development work was entitled to inaugurate the project, complaining that the inauguration of the two projects had been pending for the past five years, she said. During the meeting, she said, she asked the director MLC, Lahore, about the TORs of the above two projects, but he flatly said that the TORs of the projects had not been prepared.
She said that the director flared up and misbehaved when she insisted that the TORs had been prepared and the previous director had been aware of the fact, adding that the director had walked out of the meeting. "This is unfortunate that we have democratic system in our country but the army still rules us in several matters," she added.
