NYA urges government to form Youth Commission at federal level

The National Youth Assembly (NYA) has demanded that the government should form National Youth Commission at federal level so that 63 percent young generation could play their due role for the betterment of the country.
Talking to newsmen on Thursday, NYA President Hanan Ali Abbasi said the purpose of this Commission to address the issues and grievances of youth, and reopening the opportunities that were previously running under Federal Ministry of Youth Affairs. In this regard, President National Youth Assembly Hanan Ali Abbasi met with PML-Q Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed, to discuss the paramount significance of National Youth Commission.
Senator Mushahid Hussain assured to initiate the concept of this Commission by giving it a well-structured shape. The NYA President said "we put forward the idea of National Youth Commission after having thorough deliberation and consultation. He further added that at governmental level, first time in the history of Pakistan, in June 1989, Youth Affairs Division was established, which was merged with Ministry of Women Development in October 1993.
It was again made a separate Division in August 1996 and was again merged with Ministry of Culture in November 1996 as a Wing. It became full-fledged Ministry in November 2005, but the irony of matter is that in March 2011, the Ministry of Youth Affairs was dissolved and delegated its powers to the provincial governments.
Hanan lamented that though the devolution of power was appreciable but, at federal level, dissolution of ministry had created a yawning gap between Pakistani youth and the rest of the world. With the closure of this ministry, all key agreements with international governmental and non-governmental bodies have also been abolished.
Hanan Ali Abbasi informed that unfortunately, in the name of saving money, the Ministry of Youth Affairs had been dissolved whereas the fund earmarked for youth was one rupee per person which was five times less than its annual budget driven in by international accords.
