Power shortfall hovers around 5,000MW

The country is facing a 5,000-megawatt shortfall in power generation after hydel generation declined as the Tarbela Resrvoir hit dead level, Pepco officials said on Thursday. Hydel gebneration units are currently producing just 2,767MW, followed by 1,618MW by thermal units and 5,573MW through IPPs.
Meanwhile, KESC was supplied 760MW during the past 24 hours. Both domestic and commercial consumers faced power outages lasting between six and eight hours in urban and 12 to 14 hours in rural areas.
