A much welcome development in the wake of changing regional environment is the warming up of Pak-Iran relations. The two neighbours are also important regional stakeholders in the settlement of Afghan war. They need to align their policies to bring lasting peace to that unfortunate country.
That realisation seems to be at the back of a new initiative by Islamabad to seek greater support from Tehran and Beijing. The same consideration may have helped push a recent agreement with India to double bilateral trade in the next three years and to open a second trading post for the purpose. Indeed, a policy of increased regional economic and political engagement is the best bet for this country to ride out the current problematic situation and get onto the road to progress and development.
