Former PPP MPA's case: LHC restrains ATC from announcing decision

Lahore High Court has stopped Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) from announcing decision on trial of former PPP MPA Aslam Madhiana in teacher torture case. Madhiana through his Counsel, Azam Nazir Tarar submitted that the allegations were proved false as a medical board has given opinion that injuries were not caused by gun shots.
The counsel further submitted that there are statements of shop keepers proving that Madhiana was not present at the spot. He said the fighting did not disturb the routine life of the people and in such circumstances no sections of Anti Terrorism Act (ATA) can be applied.
He said his client was being tried under ATA sections for political pressure. He said the ATC also entertained the case without having jurisdiction. He therefore prayed to the court to direct the ATC not to try his client under ATA charges. He also prayed the court to stay the proceedings of the ATC till final decision of this petition. School teacher Nafees Ahmad in the FIR accused that Madhiana attacked on him after he raised an objection against his criminal acts.
