Traders belonging to different markets on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against the recent hike in petroleum and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices, saying that the increase would add to their worries. Scores of traders took part in the protest near D-Chowk and raised slogans against the government for its failure in providing relief to the rank and file.
The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with anti-government slogans, demanding of the government to withdraw recent hike in POL price immediately. The protesters complained that the increase in fuel price would adversely affect the price of other essential commodities, as it would cause inflation. They also threatened the government if the increase in price was not withdrawn then they would launch mass protests across the country.
Akhlaq Abbasi, President Traders Welfare Association (TWA) Karachi Company while addressing on the occasion said that the increase in fuel prices would affect the price of other commodities, causing further inflation in the country. If inflation continued with the same speed people would be left with no option, but to launch civil disobedience movement against the government, adding that they would not hesitate to come on the streets for the acceptance of their due demands, he said.
