The village committees should be activated and locals be involved for prevention, detection and control of the fire incidents and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) must take all possible measures to protect the Margallah Hills National Park (MHNP). Chairman Prime Minister's Task Force on Islamabad, Faisal Sakhi Butt directed this while talking to the locals during his visit to the MHNP and adjoining villages of the area on Friday.
He said that the forest of Margallah Hills is the great natural gift that distinguishes the federal capital from other cities of the country, adding that possible precautionary measure should be taken to protect the natural environment and expand the green cover. He said that eruption of fire incidents in the forest not only destroys the costly trees and shrubs, but also the different species of animals, birds and reptiles inhabited in the park area. To save the rich biodiversity, the relevant wing of CDA must act promptly in collaboration with the locals.
Butt was apprised that on the direction of Chairman CDA, Engineer Farkhand Iqbal, the Environment Wing of CDA in collaboration with the allied organisations and associated NGOs has taken concrete measures to minimise fire incidents in Margallah Hills. The Fire Headquarters is vigilant during the fire season to protect the rich biodiversity and fauna flora of MHNP.-PR
