Contempt of court proceedings - directs DSP to file explanation
The Lahore High Court here on Friday observed that at police stations, police officers act smartly but the moment they appeared in courts, act dumb. The court observed this while taking strict notice of not appearing of a DSP Raza Safdar Kazmi in contempt of court proceedings against him and other police officers initiated for tampering with supplementary statements of parties involved in a triple murder case.
Earlier DSP Kazmi appeared before the court and had no answer when asked as to why he did not inform his seniors who were present in the court. The court said the behaviour of police officers showed that they did not bother the courts proceedings and thought they were above the law.
The court directed the SP CIA to hold investigations strictly on merit and fix responsibility on the officers who tampered with supplementary statements in the case. The court directed the DSP Kazmi, Inspector Ijaz and a Sub-inspector Rizwan to file their explanations to contempt notices by next hearing, April 18.
