Commissioner Karachi, Roshan Ali Shaikh has directed all public utility organisations and departments to ensure provision of public toilets and ease the problems faced by their clients and visitors. Equal attention must be paid for their maintenance as well as separate facilities for men and women visiting banks, KESC and Sui Gas offices and all government departments frequently visited by citizens, he said chairing a meeting on Monday.
Karachi Commissioner also directed deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners of all five districts of Karachi to see that public toilets already set-up by city administration in commercial areas are well kept with due consideration towards hygiene, sanitation and round the clock availability of water.
He asked the DCs and ACs to approach shopkeepers' unions of different markets and shopping areas in their respective jurisdiction to build additional number of toilet facilities for the visitors. "It must be ensured that privacy for women is maintained and strict vigil is also ensured about hygienic standards as often neglect of public toilets adds to the misery of the people," said the city commissioner.
