Federal Minister for Industries and Defence Production Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said on Monday that the Punjab government's mission was to make farmers prosperous. He was talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Agricultural Industry, led by Chairman Foundry Owners Group Seth Iftikhar Ahmed.
The delegation members apprised Elahi about the problems being faced by the agriculture industry. PML Punjab General Secretary and Parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Zaheeruddin Khan was also present. Seth Iftikhar Ahmed told Elahi that imposition of 16 percent sales tax by the federal government on agricultural implements was adversely affecting more than 0.5 million families.
He said that closure of agricultural implements producing units would badly affect the agriculture sector. The minister informed the delegation that 16 percent sales tax on the tractor manufacturing industry had been reduced to 5 percent. He assured that the delegation that their problems and demand for reduction in sales tax would be considered sympathetically.
