Sindh Minister for Information Shazia Marri on Saturday has dispelled the impression that action against extortionists and other criminals was one sided and limited to only Lyari. This she said addressing a hurriedly-called press conference at her office.
She said that action against criminals and extortionists will be taken wherever they are active in the all areas of Karachi. President Asif Ali Zardari has issued clear instructions that indiscriminate action be taken against criminals, she added. 'Action has been launched from Lyari, which is no doubt a stronghold of the PPP. It will also be extended to other areas of the city where the criminals are found. Besides all the peaceful citizens the residents of the Lyari also want action against criminals', she added.
The Minister said that extortion is an old problem; the citizens of the Karachi are facing for the last several years, it is the present government that has launched action against extortionists. She appealed all the political parties to join hands to curb the menace of extortion in the city.
Shazia made clear that no injustice will be done with any of the citizen during ongoing action against the criminals. The ruling PPP has raised voice whenever innocent people were affected in the past, she added. On the occasion, Ms Marri criticised the PML-N leadership hoodwink people of the country by making false claims and baselessly criticising the government and PPP leadership.
"They tried to hoodwink the people by distributing laptops among them. But people better know that they were responsible for introduction of Kalashnikov and drugs culture in the country", Minister added. She said that the PML-N leadership first plundered the public money and later had fled of the country by leaving the people behind in difficult time of former military dictator, General (Retired) Pervez Musharraf.
Instead, she said, they claim having remained jails. People of the country know whose leadership and workers had bear difficulties of prisons, and who did resisted to Musharraf, she added. Sindh Information Minister also told about the PPP-led government's performance and achievements during its four-year tenure from providing basic facilities to people and strengthening of the Parliament.
