Chairman Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) Bashir Khan Qureshi on Friday announced to disown the Pakistan Resolution, saying that it had failed to protect the rights and autonomy of the Sindh for last 65 years. Speaking at the 'Freedom March' organised by his party, he said the Sindh had voluntarily merged into the country under 1940's Pakistan Resolution but now the people of Sindh were reluctant to own the resolution as it had not shielded the rights and autonomy of Sindh during the last 65 years.
Qureshi said the resources of Sindh had been usurped in 1950 in the name of 'One Unit' and added the Sindh provided hefty share to the national exchequer but people of Sindh were living in poverty and deprivation. He said his party considered Urdu speaking people as part of Sindh and they should struggle with them for the rights of Sindh. "We Sindhis now disown the Pakistan Resolution and say it good bye, and demand independence of the Sindh according to its historical status," he said.
JSQM chief further said Pakistan Resolution was first tabled in Sindh Assembly, seeking a separate state in Muslim majority areas. He said his leader GM Syed had demanded Pakistan while tabling the resolution in Sindh Assembly. Qureshi said, "the establishment and Punjab who ruled the country from the day first have never complied with the resolution. They usually celebrate March 23 sumptuously every years."
He said some Muslim league's leaders had hatched a conspiracy in a meeting of All India Muslim League's working session just before one year of Independence of Pakistan and declared, "Pakistan will be a religious nation-state which was totally against Pakistan Resolution of 1940."
Regarding the wall-chalking for 'Muhajir province', he said that although at present the geographic boundaries were not in control of Sindhis, any dishonest attitude, intrigue and such debate would not be tolerated, which hurt the current boundaries of the province or harmony of Sindh. Following the rally, a young man lost his life while another injured when workers of JSQM resorted to indiscriminate firing in various parts of the city.
A 22-year-old man was gunned down in Gulistan-e-Jauhar during a rally organised by a nationalist party of the Sindh on Friday. According to police, the victim Mohammad Nadeem, 22 son of Ghulam Murtaza was targeted when he was sitting at his puncture shop situated at Block-11, Dubai Chowrangi in the jurisdiction of Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station. Following the incident, scores of victim's relatives gathered at the place and staged a protest demonstration against the incident. They also blocked the road by setting tires on fire.
According to the protesters, the participants of the rally resorted to firing in order to suspend all commercial activities when the rally was passing through the area. Resultantly, the victim was shot and injured and was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he succumbed to his injuries. SHO Tahir Ayub said that police had registered a case 157/12 on the complaint of victim's relative against two unidentified men and added that the deceased belonged to Siraiki community.
Similarly, one more person namely Nawaz, 13 received bullet wounds when the participants of the rally restored to firing near Rabiya City in Shara-e-Faisal police station. There were also reports about riots and mugging at a petrol pump in the same locality but the police officials did not confirmed the reports. No case was registered till filing of this report. Main rally of the 'Freedom March' was taken out from Gulshan-e-Hadeed led by JSQM chief Bashir Qureshi Asif Baladi, Sagar Hanif Burrdi, Dr Niaz Kalani, Sarfraz Memon and other which culminated at Numaish Chowrangi.
