The Punjab government held balloting for distribution of 6,200 yellow cabs among the educated persons under third phase of its self-employment scheme here, on Friday. The provincial government is handing over keys of 20,000 vehicles - 60 percent Mehran and 40 percent Bolan till June this year to provide self-employment to the educated youth. The price of these vehicles is Rs 63000 less than the market rates.
Presiding over the balloting ceremony, leader of the opposition in Senate, Ishaq Dar said it is commendable that Punjab government is implementing projects like Aashiyana, laptop and yellow cab for serving the people within its own resources. Senator Dar said Punjab is taking a lead in reducing its non-developmental expenditures and except salaries, the saved amount is being spent on the public welfare projects. The rate of poverty has risen from 34 percent to 70 percent; therefore, it is necessary to provide maximum job opportunities to the masses.
