Aga Khan University is holding a seminar to mark World Epilepsy Day on March 26. In Pakistan approximately 1,800,000 people from all age groups suffer from epilepsy. It is a common neurological disorder that causes the brain to produce sudden bursts of electrical impulses, creating an electrical storm or seizure - a pattern of such repeated seizures is known as epilepsy.
The use of proper medication has proven effective in managing the disorder in a large number of cases. Surprisingly the ratio of victims seeking medical treatment is quite low even among the urban population and is worse in rural localities. The seminar will focus on diagnosis, treatment and surgical aspects of epilepsy and will also help raise awareness about epilepsy among women and children.-PR
