Collecting CNIC copy from buyers: KCCI calls for withdrawal of condition

Acting President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Younus M Barhir, has said the condition to collect CNIC copy of buyers imposed by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is not acceptable to business community and it should be withdrawn immediately.
Talking to delegations of Pakistan Second-hand Clothing Merchant Association led by its President, Salim Vakani, and Pakistan Hardware Merchants Association led by its Vice Chairman, Syed Tariq Rasheed, he said that he had already written a letter to Chairman FBR and informed him that implementation of SRO 191(I)/2012 was not possible owing to many reasons.
Bashir further said that he had informed that there was a downward trend in the number of Letter of Credits (LCs) being opened for import of goods due to the condition of CNIC for the buyers. "Although the importers are registered entities but they have to sell the imported goods to buyers who are not at all interested in furnishing CNIC copies," he added.
He said that none of the stakeholders were ready to become the tax collector, as they believe this is the sole responsibility of the FBR and not the taxpayers. He said that he has demanded immediate withdrawal of the SRO. The delegations expressed concerns over the prevailing law and order situation in the city. The acting KCCI president said controlling law and order and providing conducive environment for business activities was the responsibility of the government.
