The Commissioner Karachi on Saturday directed all five deputy commissioners to conduct a detailed survey of restaurants, hotels and shops serving water-pipe smoking at public places before launching action under Section-144 against pubs. He was presiding over a meeting at his office. Commissioner expressed concern over wide-spread use of Sheesha in public places and said students of schools and colleges are becoming addict to this menace.
Commissioner Karachi Roshan Ali Shaikh directed all deputy commissioners to conduct survey of the Sheesha Bars operating in city before launching action to get closed the bars. It is turning into a fashion to smoke Sheesha and often students bunk their classes and spend time on such Sheesha pubs, thus ruining their health and wasting time and money, Roshan said.
A letter has already been written to Additional Chief Secretary Home to impose section-144 on use of Sheesha in the city, he added. Commissioner said taking action against Sheesha pubs is now indispensable to save the future generation. He said legislation and strict steps are necessary in this regard to stem the prevalent use of water-pipe smoking.
