Sindh police and Citizen Police-Liaison Committee (CPLC) on Saturday claimed to have arrested two alleged extortionists in a joint raid in F B Area Block 18 in the limits of Gulberg police station. According to police officials, the action was taken on the complaint of Sohail, an owner of Taj chicken centre, who received extortion slip of Rs 10,000 from the extortionists on March 10.
They said Sohail was also threatened for dire consequences, if he refused to pay the ransom. Reacting on his complaint, Gulberg police along with CPLC conducted raid at the said chicken shop and taken two extortionists namely Hassan and Munir into custody when they came to collect the ransom from Sohail.
SHO Gulberg Raja Arif said the accused persons during initial course investigation revealed that they dispatched extortion slip to Sohail on the directives of two extortionists namely Farrukh and Danish. He said the accused persons, who used to get shelters under the umbrella of different political parties, were criminals. A case was registered against him and further investigation was underway.
