Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness Management, University of Karachi (DAAMUK) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding ("MoU") with Agribusiness Support Fund (ASF) under the USAID Agribusiness Project. Under this agreement, the ASF will provide financial support to the Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness Management for conducting training programmes, workshops, seminars, undertaking research and development activities, etc, within specific areas of Horticulture, Livestock, Dairy and Fisheries, and environment-friendly approaches to plant protection.
The MoU was signed by Nazeer Ahmed Essani, Regional Programme Manager ASF, Karachi and Professor Dr Muhammad Qaiser, Vice-Chancellor, University of Karachi. The ceremony was also attended by the Pro-Vice-Chancellors of University of Karachi, Professor Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi and Professor Dr Nasiruddin Khan, Professor Dr Nutsrat Jameel (Dean Faculty of Science), Mehboob-ul Haq of Sindh Investment Board, Aslam Pakhali of All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Importers and Exporters Association, Fateh Muhammad Marri of Planong and Development Division, Government of Sindh, Shaukat Mukhtar of Landhi Dairy Association, Pervaiz Hussain Blooch of Gadap Growers Association and the Faculty members of the Department of Agriculture and Agribusiness Management.
Professor Dr Muhammad Qaiser, Vice-Chancellor, University of Karachi appreciated the efforts of the Department for providing the trained manpower to the agribusiness sector. He said that in view of the importance of Agriculture and Agribusiness in the development of the economy of Pakistan, this collaboration between the University and ASF will play a vital role in the improvement of agribusiness activities in the country that will help in minimising the losses produced as a result of substandard agribusiness practices.
