20 to 25 percent affected areas in Sindh still under rain/flood water: Report

Sindh Relief department has rejected the claim of Irrigation department that rain/flood water was drained out from 97 percent land of the affected areas, saying that about 20 percent to 25 percent area is still under the rain/flood water in various districts of the province.
This has been stated in a report compiled by provincial Relief department, a copy of which is also available with Business Recorder. The report has also been forwarded to Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah a few days back for further action. The Relief department's team headed by Haleem Adil Shaikh, Advisor to Chief Minister, visited district Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Tando Allahyar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Khairpur Mir's, Naushehroferoze, and Disrict Dadu and compiled this comprehensive report.
The report stated that about 20 to 25 percent of the affected land was still under the rain/flood water in the different affected areas. There is a dire need to immediately drain out the water from these areas, it underlined.
According to Irrigation department, 97 percent of rain/flood water has been evacuated from the affected areas. If the claim is correct than why the de-watering pumps have not still been rendered spared. If these de-watering pumps are in possession of any other, these should be recovered," the report proposed.
"The rain/flood water from the lands of influential people has been evacuated, but land of resource-less people is still under water. The favorites of officers were bestowed with aid, assistance, and in provision of watan cards and distribution of urea. But common men face difficulties. In this regard there is a need to take steps to improve the image of government," it added.
The report carries details of standing water in different villages. It said that in Dighri (district Mirpurkhas), there are many large pockets of lands under rain/flood water in UC- Kingro, UC Soofan Shah and Deh-170. Besides, 50 percent of areas of Pubban are under the rain/flood water.
Similarly, there are many large pockets of rain/flood water in various areas of Jhudo including UCs of Jhudo, UC-Roshanabad, UC-Ahori, village Syed Noor Ali Shah and others. There is urgent need of drain from village Syed Noor Ali Shah to Sim Nala. Naonkot: Large pockets of Naonkot is under rain/flood water. There is urgent need of de-watering through co-ordination of HESCO and SEEDA.
Tando Jan Mohammad: In some areas of Tando Jan Muhammad there were large pocket of rain / flood water. Kot Ghulam Mohammad: Dudho Goth, Diyal Goth, Deh 269, 299, 300, 268 and 268-A in Sikiryari are still under the rain/flood water.
Sindhri: UCs of Hingorno, Ismail Jo Goth, Phulahdiyun, Garhore Sharif and other areas of Sindhri are under the rain/flood water and houses were found demolished.
Mithi/ Kaloi (district Tharparkar): Large tracts of Kaloi is under rain/flood water.
Umerkot: Areas of Atta Pali, Ali Bux Manglani and others are under rain/flood water. Dhoro Naro: Most areas of Dhoro Naro, besides houses in some Katcha areas are still submerged by the rain/flood water.
Kunri: Rainwater still standing in various areas of Kunri including UC-Sher Khan Chandio, UC Bhustta, UC Padhuro and UC Chajrro, UC Tali, and UC Nabi Sar.
Samaro: Many areas including Samaro, Pir Colony, City Colony, Meghwar Colony, Deh Kharoro, UC Padrio, and others are under rain/flood waters.
Sanghar: Rain/flood water still standing in 34 out of the total 54 UCs of Sanghar District.
Shaheed Benazirabad: Two Talukas of District Shaheed Benazirabad, ie, Taluka Duar and Taluka Sakrand were affected by the floods/rains.
Thari Mirwah (disctrict Khairpur Mir's): Some areas of Thari Mirwah city are still under the rain/flood water.
Naushehroferoze: Some areas of Nausheror Feroze including UC Mithani, UC Khhoee, UC Sona Mandhi and UC-Bhorty are still under rain/flood water.
Dadu: Many areas in Dadu including UC Mundhar, UC Makhdoom Bilawal, UC Allahabad, UC Phullji and UC Pipri are still under rain/flood water. When contacted, Halim Adil Shaikh told this scribe that though Relief department had very limited funds but they paid a detailed visit of rain/flood affected areas and compiled the report.
