The lawyers' community observed black day against the actions of the former dictator on March 9, 2007. Black flags were hoisted on the roof of the bar rooms and lawyers also wore black bandages. The bars also passed resolutions and condemned the actions of Musharraf against the lawyers in a joint meeting at the Lahore High Court Bar Association; Asma Jehangir and other senior bar members and the lawyers were present.
The speakers appreciated the judiciary for its present role and hoped that judiciary will continue to play its role for the betterment of the people and strengthening the democracy in the country. They said judiciary in playing its role in accordance with the expectations of the people of Pakistan and added lawyers' community will continue to back the judiciary. They called upon the judicial commission to nominate the persons having sound professional standing for higher judiciary. They said nominees should not have affiliation with any political party.
