Split degree programmes: university of Glasgow, UAF to sign MoU

The University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK and University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to initiate split degree programmes in social sciences in a bid to get benefit from each other's expertise.
In this regard, Ms Caroline Boddie, Senior Officer from University of Glasgow called on UAF Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and briefed the students and faculty members about her university at New Senate Hall. She said that her university was the fourth oldest university in the UK and ranked 59 best besides it they have topped in 20 subjects in Scotland. She said that they were also offering many scholarships for the bright students and so that UAF could also get benefit of it. She added as a commitment to supporting students and rewarding academic excellence, her University had invested more than one million pounds in additional scholarship funding for 2011/12.
Talking about criteria to get admission, she said that Pakistani students have to get 6.5 bands in IELTS. She said that world famous economists Adam Smith was also a student of her university She said the city of Glasgow has a reputation across the globe as a friendly and welcoming place with a vibrant cultural life. Glasgow was recently voted the 2nd best town in the UK for student life such as accommodation, education, research and others.
Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that UAF has been ranked number one agricultural university of the country as well as standing among top university in various categories. He said that Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif had provided 300 scholarships for the university's students to study abroad in well reputed institutes that would prove hallmark in the development of the sector, contributing 22 percent to the Gross Domestic Product of the country. He mentioned that the UAF is having 130 women teaching staff. To facilitate them, the university is providing state-of-the-art staff facilities including Day Care Centre, etc. He stressed to need to set up more universities in the province in order to meet the demand of increasing students and giving them quality education at their doorstep.
Ms Caroline Boddie was flanked by Muir Lone and Mrs Naeem Khan. Director Financial Assistance and University Advancement Brigadier Muahmmad Javaid Anwar (r), External Linkage Director Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Chatta and Public Relations and Publication Assistant Registrar Syed Qamar Bukhari also spoke on the occasion.
