Secretary Agriculture Punjab Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmad has suggested to formulate knowledge based agricultural policies for precision agriculture, productivity enhancement and resource conservation. He was chairing a consultative meeting of stakeholders at committee room of Punjab Agriculture Research Board (PARB) here at Lahore on Thursday.
He said that agriculture and livestock sector is top priority of Punjab government. These vital sectors contribute major role in economic development of Pakistan and hence must be addressed to harness the hidden potential in these sectors. He said that Punjab government is trying its best to boost result oriented research in agriculture and livestock sectors. No doubt PARB is playing vital role in collaborating with all other R&D institutions but still improvement is required especially in monitoring of projects, he further added.
He said that research should be focused in developing biological fertilizers enriched with micro and macro nutrients a good replacement of chemical fertilizers. This would not only bring down the cost of production of farmers but they are environment friendly as well.
Dr Mubarak Ali, Chief Executive of PARB briefed about the importance and achievements of PARB. He said that this institution is acting as bridge between research institutions and farmers. Secretary Agriculture asked the agriculture experts and scientists to come forward with latest research outputs to cope the challenges of agriculture and livestock sector to play their role in economic development of the country.
