Taiwan stocks fall

Taiwan stocks closed 1.35 percent lower on Monday, the biggest single-day percentage fall in more than two weeks, pressured by HTC Corp and some Apple-linked plays such as Catcher Tech and Hon Hai. The main TAIEX index fell 109.70 points to 8,004.74, after opening down 0.11 percent, with the electronics and machinery sub-index being the biggest drags, down 3.05 percent.
Electronics shares shed 1.2 percent. HTC lost 3.37 percent, while Catcher and Hon Hai were down 4.68 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively. Mediatek erased early gains and traded 1.6 percent lower. A US court ruled on Friday that Mediatek, LSI and STMicroelectronics NV did not violate Rambus Inc's patented chip technology. Financial shares were off 1.9 percent. The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.020 to trade at T$29.484.
