Fazl resents MFN status to India
LAHORE: Fazlur Rehman, chairman of parliament's Kashmir Committee, strongly condemned the MFN status to India and asked the commerce ministry to provide him the reasons behind the decision. He said the next meeting of parliamentary Kashmir committee would formally ask the Commerce Minister to provide the details of the national interests which the decision would serve and as to what prompted the rulers to take the decision - national interests or Western pressure.
While talking to reporters here on Tuesday after conclusion of Sheikhul Hind seminar, he refuted the rumours about the imminent dissolution of the government and imposition of martial law, saying both the things were mere gossips, and expressed the confidence that government would complete its tenure.
Party Secretary-General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, veteran leader Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani and other top leaders were also present.
When asked he said that his party has decided to launch mass contact campaign across the country to prepare the party for coming general elections by holding public meetings, seminars and rallies. According to the decisions of 3-day general council meeting of JUI-F which concluded here Monday night, the campaign would also aim at pressing the government for getting out of US war on terror, disclosing all secret deals with Washington and Delhi, and bringing the culprits before dock who made those deals against the national interests.
In response to a question he said Memo issue was too much confused to be commented upon, and said since the matter was before the Supreme Court we should wait for the decision. To another question, he said, JUI-F supported creation of new provinces including the Saraiki and Bahawalpur provinces and would also continue its struggle for the restoration of Muttahid Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).
To another question, he said, the secret alleged support of establishment to Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf had intensely frustrated the youth who had hoped to see a revolution coming as promised.
He demanded that all secret deals with US and India made in Gen Musharraf era should be made public and its perpetrators be brought to book. He refuted government claims that there was no record of those agreements saying if it was not true then why government froze those deals with Washington and Delhi.
Earlier, addressing the seminar prominent speakers including religious scholars and political leaders paid glowing tributes to Sheikhul Hind, Maulana Mehmoodul Hasan, for his meritorious services for protecting Islam and religious students from the victimisation of British colonists and the oppression of Hindu majority.
They urged the ulema and scholars to come out of their monastries to wage a struggle for countering the onslaught of secularism and anti-Islam conspiracies.
The seminar was chaired by Mufti Azam Paksitan, Mufti Rafi Usmani, while other speakers included Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, Maulana Zahidur Rashedi, Hafiz Akif Saeed, Maulana Ziaullah Shah, Prof Amjad Shakir, Prof Mehmoodul Hasan Arif, Maulana Amjad Khan, Mujir Rehman Shami, Farooq Qureshi, Maualna Atiqur Rehman, Dr Qibla Ayaz, Qari Sanaullah, Maulana Akramul Qadri, Hafiz Naseer Ahmad, Qari Ahmad Mian Thanvi, Mufti Muhammmad Usman, Salman Gilani, Hafiz Ghazanfar Aziz and others.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced that JUI-F would observe 2012 as the year of Sheikhul Hind Maulana Mahmoodul Hasan to hold different functions to highlight his achievements, sacrifices and personality.
