Supreme Court to resume hearing of various cases from tomorrow

The Supreme Court will resume hearing of various cases during the week commencing March 5. A seven-member special bench will hear the contempt proceedings against Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani over non-compliance with the court's December 16, 2009 order in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) case.
The bench of Justice Nasirul Mulk, comprising Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Muhammad Ather Saeed had been hearing the case. During last hearing, the bench allowed Aitzaz Ahsan, counsel for the Prime Minister to submit summaries of May 21 and September 21, 2010 along with the orders passed by his client in response to the court orders about reopening of Swiss cases against the President of Pakistan.
This week, a bench led by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will also resume hearing of Reko Diq lease case where directives were issued to Secretary Mineral Balochistan to dispose of an appeal of TCCA, filed against DG mines amid summoning Tethyan Copper Company Australia to submit its reply.
A petition of former air martial Asghar Khan against misuse of public money reportedly disbursed through Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) to influence the 1990 general elections would also be heard during the week in which former DG ISI Lieutenant General Asad Durrani, Ministry of Defence and defunct Mehran Bank's chief executive Younis Habib were directed to submit their replies in relation to the petition.
The justices in the principal seat of the Supreme Court will also hear other cases of targeted killings in Balochistan, kidnapping for ransom and the overall poor law and order situation in the province and the murder of Mir Bakhtiar Domki's wife and daughter in Karachi.
The justices will also take up fresh petitions and decide earlier filed cases to determine the individual and institutional rights and duties, criminal as well as civil matters during the week. It has been directed to all the attorneys that during next week no adjournment would be granted in any case. However, the advocate-on-record would appear before all the four benches if the counsel is unable to appear for any reason.
