The ruling coalition of ANP and PPP on Friday clinched majority of the Senate seats of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa. The ANP and PPP obtained 6 and 4 seats respectively, while the opposition parties JUI-F and PML-N got one each. Polling for the election of 12 Senators from Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa started in the provincial assembly at 9:00 am with Provincial Election Commissioner, Sher Afgan Khan as the presiding officer.
According to unofficial results on seven general seats, Azam Khan Hoti, Shahi Syed and Baz Mohammad of ANP; Ahmad Hassan Khan, Saifullah Khan Bangash of PPP; Talha Mehmood of JUI-F and Nisar Mohammad Khan of PML-N were elected while Shah Faisal Afridi (independent) got only four votes.
Similarly, the two seats reserved for technocrats were shared by Ilyas Ahmad Bilour of ANP and Farhatullah Khan Babar of PPP while the two seats reserved for women were also clinched by Zahida Khan of ANP and Robina Khalid of PPP respectively. The single seat reserved for non-Muslims was obtained by Amarjeet Malhotra of ANP.
