Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Friday staged a protest rally to denounce the desecration of the Holy Quran by the US forces in Afghanistan. Hundreds of JI workers taking banners and placards in their hands participated in the anti-US rally. Chanting anti-US and Nato slogans the protestors demanded of the Pakistani government to break its ties with the superpower.
The rally started from Masjid Bait-ul-Mukarram and culminated at Civic Centre. Addressing the protestors, JI chief, Syed Munawar Hassan strongly denounced the act of burning of the Holy Quran. He urged Parliament to pass a resolution condemning the US and Nato for burning of the Holy Qura'n by its forces in Afghanistan.
He said burning of Holy Quran was a pre-planned conspiracy by the superpower and its allied forces in Afghanistan to provoke the sentiments of Muslims in the world. He called it an act of "provocation". He warned the western forces in Afghanistan that any attempt to desecrate the Holy Quran would never be tolerated, as the sacred scriptures were the primary source of Muslims' faith.
