Possible extension in Pasha's tenure discussed: Prime Minister meets Kayani, Zardari on security

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday met Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani and President Asif Ali Zardari separately, to discuss important matters related to national security. In his meeting with the Chief of Army Staff, PM Gilani discussed new developments on Afghanistan, the Balochistan issue and operations being carried out against militants in the tribal region.
The PM assured the Army Chief that funds would be released for the development projects in the militancy-affected areas. The Army Chief briefed the premier on the security related matters on the Pak-Afghan border. Proposal on possible extension in the tenure of Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, the Chief of Inter Services of Intelligence, also came under discussion, said sources.
The official statement issued by PM House regarding the meeting stated that the operational activities of the army, war against terror, internal and external security situation was discussed by the two key office bearers of the country. Following his meeting with Kayani, PM Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani made a trip to the Presidency, to brief President Asif Ali Zardari on the same issues. He updated the president on his meeting with the Army Chief.
The two also deliberated on the recently-concluded by-polls and the forthcoming Senate elections. A press release from the President House said current situation was discussed during the meeting. The recently held by-election of the National and Provincial assemblies and the forthcoming Senate elections were also discussed.
