US Plains hard red winter wheat basis bids were steady to firmer on Monday as country selling remained thin and mill demand rose in some locations. The basis rose 5 cents a bushel in Salina, Kansas, but bids were otherwise unchanged. Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City jumped 10 cents a bushel for 13.00- and 13.20-pro wheat, and climbed 5 cents for 12.00 and 14.00-pro wheat. Premiums also jumped 3 cents for 11.40 and 11.60-pro wheat.
Wheat futures at the Kansas City Board of Trade ended mixed on Friday with the March contract up 1 cent at $6.81. Crop-friendly snowfall and moisture fell over the weekend and more snow is expected this week in the dry areas of the US Northern Plains, said John Dee, meteorologist for Global Weather Monitoring.
