The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has recommended the names of two lawyers for their appointment as Additional Judges of the Sindh High Court in its meeting headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at the Supreme Court on Saturday. The Chief Justice Sindh High Court had recommended eight names but the Commission recommended only two names to the Parliamentary Committee for the appointment as Additional Judges.
They are Shafi Muhammad Sadiqui and Nadeem Akhtar. Meanwhile, six names of Additional and Session judges were returned to the Chief Justice of SHC for a further consultative process. On the other hand, the Commission also recommended the confirmation of Additional Judge of Peshawar High Court Yahya Afridi. Likewise, it also gave extension to another PHC Additional Judge Sajjad Shah till August 2012.
The Commission recommended names to the Parliamentary Committee for consideration, which will forward its recommendations to President Asif Ali Zardari. The meeting was attended by four senior most judges of the Supreme Court, and Chief Justice of Sindh High Court Mushir Alam.
It is worth mentioning that Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has shown concern to the JCP on the appointment of superior courts' judges as PBC's recently elected Vice Chairman Akhtar Hussain has reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the appointment process through a unanimous resolution adopted by Council's executive body.
